Stella Artois is proud of our rich Belgian heritage. Stella Artois traces its origins to over 600 years ago, to the Den Hoorn brewery in Leuven, Belgium founded in 1366. Stella Artois was born as a Holiday gift to the people of Leuven from the brewery. The name “Stella” – meaning “star” in Latin – pays homage to the occasion, and a star has been proudly displayed on Stella Artois bottles ever since.
Lion Red, our quintessential Kiwi beer, began life as the Pale Ale from the Great Northern Brewery in 1907- a great year for beer and an even better one for beer drinkers. Our fellow Kiwi’s began calling it “Lion Red” because of its red label and can. So, in the mid-1980s, we officially changed the name from Lion Beer to Lion Red. Over the last century, Lion Red has become a favourite for celebrating great times.

Richard Emerson was first introduced to European style beer when he travelled to Scotland with his parents. Upon his return he became disillusioned with New Zealand beer, which lead him to brew for himself, launching with London Porter and going on to brew many award winning beers earning him the title of “Hop Father” in the brewing industry. Today Emerson’s continues to release ‘beer for people who like beer’ with a focus on style, quality & distinctiveness.
