In partnership with ESPN, Aussie beer brand Hahn presents a monumental documentary that is set to have basketball fans across Australia on the edge of their seats. Premiering on 11 June, at 8pm, exclusively on ESPN, Lane Violation is the story of one of Australia’s greatest basketball players of all time – as told by one of Australia’s greatest basketball players of all time.
In the highly-anticipated documentary, produced by TSE, NBA legend Luc Longley takes the audience on a journey through fellow Aussie former NBA star, Andrew Bogut’s career. Lane Violation transports viewers to the iconic basketball arenas, and the unforgettable high and low moments that shaped Bogut’s ever-growing legacy.
Hahn introduces Basketball stars. How good.
Hahn has a longstanding track-record for celebrating Aussie sporting talent, and in equal measure, championing Australia’s everyday social athletes. In partnership with ESPN, this documentary will help bring Aussie basketball-lovers closer to the icons that have shaped the sport as we know it today.
Karen Sterling-Levis, Brand Director at Lion Australia, said: “Over recent years Hahn has cemented itself as the beer of choice for social athletes and lovers of sport in Australia. This is why we are incredibly proud to have our brand present this documentary for basketball fans. It’s a privilege to have Hahn hold a role in boosting basketball’s presence in Australia. ”
The story of two rival icons…
Luc Longley was the original Aussie trailblazer of the NBA and a key figure in the Chicago Bulls’ legendary second three-peat (winning three consecutive NBA championships in a row). Renowned for his unshakably cool demeanor under pressure and team-first mentality, Longley has famously played alongside legends such as Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen. Quickly becoming a fan favourite in Chicago, Longley was a pioneer for basketballers who followed.
In this compelling documentary, Longley sits down with Andrew Bogut, who was an undeniable talent, a fierce competitor, and a No.1 NBA Draft pick. However, early in his career, Bogut had publicised distancing himself from Longley with bold, cutting remarks that led to tension between the two.
Lane Violation reveals their story two decades later as the landscape in basketball has reshaped massively, and with it, so has the relationship between the two basketball legends. The pair are proudly now friends and colleagues, taking on new adventures. With Longley by his side, Bogut shares the inside scoop as he begins a pivotal role as the Sydney Kings’ assistant coach, transitioning from outspoken player to mentor and leader.
Luc Longley, NBA legend and star of Lane Violation, said: “As Hahn’s ambassador, I’ve been excited from the outset to tell great Australian basketball stories – and what better way to start than with Australia’s best. Bogues’ career is unrivalled in Aussie basketball history, from his achievements in College at Utah, to his selection as number one NBA Draft pick, to the memorable championship with Golden State Warriors, and his bold return to play with the Sydney Kings in the NBL. Along the journey he faced the challenge of injury, the stark reality of being traded, and overcame it all in his typical direct and determined style. ”
Andrew Bogut, NBA legend and star of Lane Violation, said: “Luc and I have had an interesting history, but our respect and friendship today has grown out of that past. As the only two 7 footer Aussies to make it in the USA, we both hold a deep appreciation for the sport itself and a passion to drive basketballs presence in Australia. ”
Featured in the documentary are also much-loved personalities from Andrew and Longley’s life stories, including:
- Steve Kerr: Longley’s teammate at the Chicago Bulls & Bogut’s coach at Golden State Warriors
- David Bauman: Bogut’s manager since he was 17, and of course, Australia’s greatest basketball coach
- Brian Goorjian: Bogut’s Australian coach during his NBA career and guide through his current coaching career
- Ray Giacoletti: Bogut’s coach from Utah College
Marty Clarke: Bogut’s coach from Australian Institute of Sport
Lane Violation premieres on 11th June, at 8pm, exclusively on ESPN. Following its initial premier, the documentary will be available on-demand from Kayo and Disney + .
