The North Queensland Cowboys and long-standing partner XXXX have kicked off the season by raising $10,000 for the Great Barrier Reef Foundation, thanks to the overwhelming support of Cowboys fans during the Opening Round at Queensland Country Bank Stadium.

XXXX pledged $2 from every beer sold during the home opener, allowing Cowboys fans to back the Reef by simply sipping on a schooner. The North Queensland community rose to the occasion in style, proving that their passion for the region extends far beyond the footy field and into the corals of the Great Barrier Reef.

The $10,000 donation will fund pioneering research aimed at strengthening the natural heat tolerance of corals. This scientific intervention is critical in helping the Reef survive more frequent and intense marine heatwaves.

"As a Queensland brand, we know protecting our incredible Reef is vital, and what better way to do so than by grabbing a schooner of XXXX with mates! It’s a cause that all Queenslanders can get behind, and this $10,000 result is a testament to that North Queensland spirit, proving exactly what we can achieve together for the future of the Reef."

North Queensland Cowboys Captain Tom Dearden said: “Growing up in Queensland, you realise early on that the Reef isn’t just a landmark, it’s part of who we are. To see our fans and XXXX come together at our home ground to raise $10,000 for its future makes me incredibly proud to lead this team and represent this community.”

Great Barrier Reef Foundation Managing Director, Anna Marsden added: “What a result. This $10,000 contribution from the Cowboys and XXXX fans helps support critical research focused on strengthening the heat tolerance of corals. At a time when the Reef is under increasing pressure from marine heatwaves, partnerships like this play an important role in helping accelerate promising solutions from the lab into the water.”

The partnership between XXXX and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation began in 2022, with the brand investing $1 million in the restoration and health of the reef’s waterways.
