Leading beverage company LION has today released its 2025 Force for Good Report, highlighting a milestone year in which the company achieved B Corp Certification while continuing to advance its environmental, social and governance commitments.

LION CEO and Managing Director Anubha Sahasrabuddhe said the achievement reflects the company’s long-held belief that business success should be measured not only by financial performance, but also by the positive impact it creates for people, communities and the environment.

“Becoming a Certified B Corporation is a defining moment for LION,” Anubha said.

“It recognises the breadth and depth of our sustainability credentials against an independent global standard and reinforces a belief we have held for many years: that success should be measured not only by financial performance, but by the positive impact we create alongside our partners.”

The certification comes as LION continues to simplify and strengthen its business, focusing on its core markets of Australia and New Zealand and positioning itself for its next era of sustainable growth.

“Our ambition is to be an unrivalled Force for Growth and a Force for Good,” Anubha said.

"Achieving that ambition means building on the enduring strengths that set us apart – a culture of performance and belonging, a portfolio of powerhouse brands, brilliant execution and a deep commitment to creating positive impact."

The report outlines significant progress across LION’s sustainability agenda, including:

  • Achieving B Corp Certification across the business
  • Reducing Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 62.5 per cent compared to the 2019 baseline
  • Commissioning its first electric boiler at Speight’s Brewery in Dunedin
  • Reaching 70.2 per cent recycled content in packaging
  • Delivering more than 4,300 employee volunteering hours across Australia and New Zealand
  • Exceeding our supplier diversity target, spending $11.9 million with diverse suppliers, including Indigenous-owned businesses, social enterprises and disability enterprises
  • Celebrating the 20th anniversary of DrinkWise, with LION remaining a proud founding supporter of the organisation’s efforts to promote responsible alcohol consumption
  • Reaching more than 905,000 New Zealanders through Alcohol&Me in New Zealand

LION remains committed to transparency about both its achievements and the challenges that remain.

“Progress is rarely linear. Challenging market conditions, rising expectations and the realities of balancing growth with impact require focus, discipline and trade-offs,” Anubha said.

“What matters most is that we continue to move forward with honesty and intent.”

The report highlights ongoing efforts to improve water efficiency, advance reconciliation, strengthen responsible sourcing practices and increase diversity in leadership, while acknowledging that some challenges require long-term commitment and investment.

“B Corp certification provides a stronger framework for continuous improvement and challenges us to keep raising the bar,” Anubha said.

“We will keep learning, keep lifting our performance and keep building LION as an unrivalled Force for Growth and a Force for Good.”
