Alcohol&Me relaunches with mobile-led website

The new site has an enhanced mobile experience, updated interactive features and new content.

What you need to know

  • Fun quizzes to help you make smarter choices about drinking
  • Test how much you really know about what’s in your glass
  • Interactive tools: standard drinks calculator, blood alcohol simulator, and can you accurately pour a drink?

Lion’s renowned Alcohol&Me programme has relaunched its website with an enhanced mobile-led user experience, updated interactive features and new content.

Alcohol&Me Manager Jude Walter said Alcohol&Me is a world-class, freely available offering.

“Alcohol&Me provides Kiwis with trusted information so they can make informed decisions if they choose to drink. Education can play a key role in promoting responsible drinking and we know from our research that many Kiwis overestimate their drinking knowledge. Less than one in two people are able to correctly define a standard drink.

“The new mobile-led website will ensure the programme continues to grow and reach more people with science-based information and tools that are practical and engaging.”

Jude Walter, Manager at Alcohol&Me

Interactive tools on the website include a standard drinks calculator which lets users adjust the alcohol content and liquid volume of beer, wine or spirits to learn how many standard drinks are in their glass, a blood alcohol simulator to model the effects of drinking on your body and mind, and even lets users test their drink pouring accuracy.

Through four key learning modules, consumers will learn about what’s in their drink, why it matters, and how to make smarter choices.

“NZ Health Survey data shows most Kiwis drink responsibly and consumers are drinking substantially less than a couple of decades ago.* Alcohol&Me is not designed to make people feel guilty or tell people not to drink. Alcohol&Me is about helping people to make smarter drinking choices by improving their understanding of how alcohol affects your body and mind. We find that 90 per cent of surveyed respondents change their drinking behaviour after completing Alcohol&Me,” said Jude.

Alcohol&Me originally started as an internal workshop at Lion in 2013 and has since gone on to educate thousands of adult New Zealanders. Alcohol&Me is available free of charge at www.alcoholandme.org.nz or as a tailored workplace workshop and has partnered with more than 20 New Zealand businesses to deliver alcohol education to teams across a wide range of industries including Fulton Hogan, PwC, Colliers International, FCB and The Highlanders.
