We’re committed to protecting water supplies and reducing our usage, ensuring the quality of our product and sustainability of our business into the future.
As climate change threatens more frequent and severe droughts, water efficiency is critical to the sustainability of our business. We have a goal of 2.5 litres of water used for each litre of beer produced, and are proud to have achieved a performance of 2.6 litres in 2025. This has been delivered through focused investment in reverse osmosis water treatment plants at our largest breweries, to ensure we maximise the use of every drop of water.
We use best practice water efficiency within our own breweries and carefully manage the quality of wastewater we discharge to the sewer. Upstream, we encourage water conservation. Read more about how we do this through this case study on the partnership between XXXX and the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
In 2023, Lion announced the opening of The Tooheys Lidcombe Brewery Reverse Osmosis Water Recycling plant, which helps Tooheys save 270 million litres of water annually. Click here to read a more detailed case study on this project.
